Press Release 11 Decmber 2003
LOW PAY COMMISSION VISIT TO PETERBOROUGH
A Low Pay
Commissioner will visit Peterborough on a fact-finding visit about the
National Minimum Wage on Friday 12 December.
William Brown will
visit a convenience store to find out how the minimum wage has affected
them. He will also visit a local Connexions - the government's support
service for all young people aged 13 to 19 in England, to hear
about and talk to some young people about their education and training
experiences and their knowledge of the minimum wage.
Low Pay Commissioner William Brown: “Regional
visits are an important way of hearing first hand how businesses and
workers are affected by the minimum wage.
Also, this year the Low Pay Commission is looking at the
advantages and disadvantages of having a minimum wage for 16 and 17 year
olds, so we are particularly keen to hear their views on this, as well
as those that come into close contact with them.”
